“Skill is fine, and genius is splendid, but the right contacts are more valuable than either.” – Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
In this lively session participants will find out how to connect with people, network effectively and learn tools and techniques for a variety of settings. Networking is an essential and useful activity but can also be a daunting task. With this fun and interactive workshop we’ll help to remove the fear factor, increase your confidence and maximize your efforts. You’ll learn tactics you can use to make yourself known to your peers, build useful, reciprocal relationships, maintain your contacts and increase your network.
We’ll provide you with a systematic approach, looking at the skills, attributes and qualities of excellent networkers and helping you set your own networking goals. We’ll think about first impressions, active listening, how to manage small talk and how to remember names as well as practical tips on introductions, how to start and finish conversations and arranging to follow up.
It’s important to have an elevator pitch to introduce yourself so you’ll have a chance to build and refine your pitch, practising it and then improving it based on feedback.
Here’s what course participants said:
“Preparing an elevator speech not only prepared me for networking events but also made me consider the most important skills, values and goals that I would want to get across to an employer”
“The ‘Elevator Speech’ segment was helpful. The ‘Tell me about yourself’ question always comes up in conversation so knowing what to say ahead of time is great.”
